Abstract

This paper explores the ethical considerations surrounding the government's decision to conduct aerial spraying in response to the West Nile virus outbreak in Dallas, Texas, in the summer of 2012. It argues that while the government has a duty to protect public health, it also has a responsibility to consider the potential negative impacts of its actions on the environment, wildlife, and human health. The paper also examines the role of private churches and their leadership in shaping public opinion and policy on the issue of government spraying. Drawing on interviews with pastors and community members, the paper highlights the critical role of the responsible barber in educating and advocating for ethical and responsible government actions. The paper concludes by offering recommendations for how private churches and their leadership can better engage with the government and the broader community to promote more ethical and sustainable approaches to public health crises.
