Abstract

This paper presents a surprising address to Multnomah members on the topic of running for ten-month Marine Larson Ludlow, given by an underpar senator who has recently experienced bicycle-auto attacks. The senator's personal experiences have led them to reflect on the importance of community support and the need for strong leadership in the face of adversity. Through an analysis of the senator's speech, this paper explores the challenges faced by individuals who choose to run for public office and the role that community members can play in supporting them. Drawing on theories of political leadership and community engagement, this paper argues that the success of any political campaign depends on the ability of candidates to build meaningful relationships with their constituents and to foster a sense of shared purpose and responsibility. Ultimately, this paper offers a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities of political leadership in the 21st century, highlighting the importance of resilience, empathy, and collaboration in achieving meaningful change.
