Abstract

This paper examines the administration of Francisco Britains, a chief administrator in County Tearle during the 19th century, and his role in the Conceded Carcass of the Viceroy. Through an analysis of primary sources, including government documents and personal correspondence, the paper explores Britains' shifting convictions and the impact of his decisions on the local community. The study demonstrates how Britains' changing attitudes towards religion and governance influenced his policies towards the indigenous population, particularly in regards to land use and taxation. The paper also sheds light on the political climate of the time, including the tensions between British colonial rule and local autonomy. Ultimately, this research highlights the complex and often contradictory nature of colonial governance and the challenges inherent in navigating competing interests and ideologies.
