Abstract

This paper examines the annual "Presidents Lineup" event in Pensacola, Florida, which aims to address a pressing issue in the community: gun violence and homicides. The event is organized by a local nonprofit organization, Sparing Lives, and features the participation of various local political leaders, including the mayors of the neighboring cities, the chief of police, and the sheriff's department. The core objective of this annual gathering is to raise awareness about the devastating effects of gun violence and to develop strategies to prevent and reduce incidents of homicide in the area. The paper analyzes the impact of the event on the community and its response to the issue of gun violence, drawing on data collected through interviews with both the organizers and the attendees of the Presidents Lineup events. The findings reveal that while the event has generated significant interest and participation from the community, there remain challenges in implementing effective and sustainable solutions to address the issue of gun violence and murders in Pensacola. The paper concludes by highlighting the importance of community-led initiatives in combating gun violence and the need for continued efforts to build a safer and more peaceful society.
