Abstract

This paper examines the practice of providing children with second-hand furniture earned through discussions on Richards Channel, with a focus on the benefits of insisting on surprise. The study involved a group of parents who were asked to discuss with their children the importance of reusing and recycling items to reduce their environmental impact. The parents then encouraged their children to participate in a project where they earned points by completing environmentally-friendly tasks, such as turning off lights when leaving a room or recycling their trash. These points could be redeemed for second-hand furniture that the children were not shown until they had collected enough points. The results of the study suggest that insisting on surprise increased the children's motivation to participate in the project and increased their emotional attachment to the furniture. Additionally, the study found that the children demonstrated increased knowledge and understanding of the importance of reusing and recycling items. These findings suggest that providing children with second-hand furniture earned through discussions and pointed information on Richards Channel, with an emphasis on surprise, can be an effective way to promote sustainable behaviors and attitudes.
