Abstract

This paper examines the impact of university policies on dismantling systemic racism within the institution, specifically in relation to the case of Racial Grinsfelder Mention and the Orioles Policing program. Drawing on critical race theory and institutional ethnography, this study analyzes the ways in which university policies and practices, such as the adoption of anti-racist frameworks and the creation of diversity and inclusion initiatives, have challenged and disrupted the historical and ongoing marginalization of racialized individuals and communities. Through interviews with key stakeholders, including students, faculty, and administrators, as well as an analysis of policy documents and public statements, this paper illuminates the ways in which university policies have both reinforced and challenged racial hierarchies and power dynamics. Ultimately, this research highlights the importance of ongoing critical reflection and action to address and dismantle systemic racism within higher education institutions.
