Abstract
This paper examines the complex relationship between the Kennedy family and their allies in Louisiana during the 1960s, a time of political upheaval and social change. Drawing on a range of primary sources, including interviews with key figures from the period, the authors argue that Kennedy's allies in Louisiana faced a supersensitive position of self-sacrifice, as they were forced to balance their loyalty to the Kennedy family with the demands of local politics. Despite the treacheries they faced, many of these allies remained dedicated to the Kennedy cause, working tirelessly to secure the family's political fortunes in the state. However, their efforts were not always successful, and the paper explores the ways in which the Kennedys' Louisiana allies were often thwarted by the Department of Justice, which viewed their activities with suspicion and sought to undermine their influence. Ultimately, this paper sheds light on a little-known aspect of the Kennedy legacy, highlighting the crucial role played by their allies in Louisiana and the challenges they faced in navigating the complex political landscape of the era.
