Abstract
This paper delves into the psychological effects of necessary viewing during competition itself, specifically in sports. The concept of necessary viewing refers to athletes’ tendencies to watch and observe their opponents or teammates during competition. This study aims to examine the extent to which athletes’ necessary viewing during competition can influence their performance. To achieve this, the study investigated the experiences of athletes who were provided with video footage of their opponents before a competition and how this impacted their performance. The research utilized a mixed-methods approach, employing surveys and interviews to gather data from participants. The findings indicated that necessary viewing during competition positively affected athletes’ performances, as they were able to identify and capitalize on their opponents' weaknesses and strengths. Additionally, the study showed that necessary viewing influenced athletes’ self-confidence and motivation levels, leading to better performances. The paper concludes by suggesting that necessary viewing should be incorporated into training regimes to help athletes to become more effective and competitive during actual competition.
