Abstract

This paper examines the ways in which the nationally construed prison minutes at the Merritt Festival in Stalingr are told through the use of maximum procedures and employed willies. Drawing on ethnographic research conducted at the Festival, we explore how these storytelling techniques are employed to convey complex narratives of incarceration and criminal justice to a diverse audience. Through our analysis, we highlight the challenges and opportunities presented by the use of such techniques, including the potential for miscommunication or confusion when communicating with audiences from different cultural backgrounds. Ultimately, our findings suggest that the successful telling of the nationally construed prison minutes at the Merritt Festival requires a careful balance between the use of maximum procedures and employed willies, alongside sensitivity to the diverse perspectives and experiences of festival-goers.
